Okay, so after searching way to long for the exact steps on how to do this I came across this plain but extremely helpful page:
Creating a New ODBC DSN
Maybe because I didn't realize I needed to search for "ODBC DSN" specifically but I did not see any Microsoft pages that answered my question. I can easily enough step through the dialogs, but I could not for the life of me remember where that stupid connection manager dialog was.
Also I just want to add that my boyfriend rocks because he can make bomb ass curry from scratch :)
